Episode 17: FID – Final Investment Decision

Episode 17 of the WHySE Creatures Stories

This post first appeared on LinkedIn on 28 July 2026.

‘FID, dog.’

‘They used to call that the final signing of the contract.’

Dragon looked at the piece of paper on the table.

This is how the new milestone in the WHySE Compass begins.

And Dragon is in a position to say so.

He is not a nervous first-time investor.

He is conservative. Financially strong. Discerning.

He has signed contracts.

Granted financial approvals.

Reviewed supervisory board resolutions.

And experienced projects where ink on paper meant more than just a nice date in the diary.

This time, the note in front of him contains just one word:

FID

Final Investment Decision.

Sounds grand.

Sounds expensive.

Sounds like a term that gets a lot of nods in meetings.

Dog explains to Dragon what lies behind it:

FID is the threshold at which due diligence, negotiation and planning give way to a binding investment decision.

In the past, it was often the signature that was seen.

Today, we talk about FID.

Signing the contract is the visible act.

FID is the decision-making threshold behind it.

The new landmark is here:
