Dragon and Dog are sitting again to discuss FID

Episode 27: Revisiting FID: When is an H₂ project truly ready for a decision?

“Can I finally invest, Dog?”

Dragon was sitting on the veranda again.
In front of him lay another pile of money, along with his sheet of paper bearing three letters:

FID.

Dog pointed at the map.

“Before making the final investment decision, we need reliable answers:

Is the technology suitable for the application?
Is its technology readiness level – the TRL – sufficient?
Are the costs, contracts and risks sufficiently clear?
Are the approvals, financing and organisation in place?”

Dragon nodded. “And where do these answers come from?”

“Many of them emerge during FEED – the detailed technical planning phase prior to implementation. We spoke about that with Horse recently.”

FID is less a date on the calendar than a state of readiness:

Carefully reviewed, calculated, negotiated and clarified, so that funds, people and responsibility can be committed to the project.

The WHySE Compass shows how FID, FEED and TRL are connected – landmark by landmark.

After all, in the H₂ terrain, hardly any term stands alone.
