“Plasma – what?
And turquoise hydrogen? Eh?”
Pig stopped in his tracks.
Goat pointed at the map of the H₂ terrain. “Perhaps because some paths start differently.”
Dog nodded. “When people think of hydrogen, many think first of water electrolysis: electricity, water, an electrolysis unit. With turquoise hydrogen, the journey starts with methane.”
“With natural gas?” asked Pig.
“For example,” said Dog. “Or with biomethane. Biogas can also be exciting if it’s processed properly.”
Goat tapped the map. “And that’s where plasmalysis comes in.”

“Exactly. Plasmalysis uses plasma to break methane down into hydrogen and solid carbon,” explained Dog. “The hydrogen can be used on-site or fed into a hydrogen pipeline. The carbon is in solid form and therefore takes a different path to the CO₂ from the chimney.”
Pig thought for a moment. “And what to do with the carbon?”
“That’s an important question,” said Dog. “Depending on its quality, it can be a valuable raw material. For materials. For building materials. For industrial applications. Just think of how many products contain carbon. It can also be used in agriculture. As a soil improver.
Pig pointed to the edge of the map. “And how much will the hydrogen cost, then?”
Dog unfolded the map a little. “Reliable cost estimates can only be made once the framework conditions are clear: methane source, electricity price, plant design, operating hours, use of the hydrogen, handling of the carbon, permits and logistics.”
Goat looked at the map. “So first understand, then calculate, then decide?”
“Exactly,” said Dog. “Just as Horse pointed out at FEED.”
