Episode 23 of the WHySE Creatures Stories

“ESG is a goal. ISO standards are often the ways to get there.”
said Snake, pushing the folder across the table.
Rooster raised his eyebrows.
“Often?”
Snake smiled.
“Yes, Rooster. You like clear evidence. I like clear rules. And Dog likes it when, in the end, everyone understands what they’re talking about.”
There were two items on the table:
a piece of paper marked ‘ESG’
and a thick folder labelled ‘ISO Management Systems’.
Rooster tapped the piece of paper with his pen.
“To many people, ESG sounds like reporting obligations. Like key performance indicators. Like external assessment. Bureaucracy.”
Dog nodded.
“That’s true. But ESG actually starts much earlier. With the question: How do we run our company in a way that brings the environment, people and responsibility together?”
Snake leafed through the folder.
“And this is exactly where ISO standards help. They turn good intentions into robust structures.”

‘Environment’ covers, for example, environmental management, life-cycle assessment, carbon footprint and energy efficiency: ISO 14001, ISO 14040, ISO 14067 and ISO 50001.
Rooster, Snake and Dog had already discussed ISO 14001 in episode 11 of the WHySE Creatures Stories on 7 July 2026. Back then, the focus was on why environmental management strengthens H₂ projects.
The ‘Social’ pillar covers responsibility, occupational health and safety, people within the organisation and customer satisfaction: ISO 26000, ISO 45001, ISO 30414 and ISO 10002.
Governance is about sound leadership, risks, compliance and data security: ISO 37001, ISO 31000, ISO 37301 and ISO 27001.
Rooster nodded slowly.
“So ESG is the landscape in which we want to operate. And ISO are the paths, markings and handrails?”
Dog smiled.
“Exactly. Especially with H₂ projects. That’s where technology, regulation, safety, funding and responsibility all come together.”
Snake looked out at the facilities. Bio-CH₄, on-site H₂, plasma lysis, delivered hydrogen.
“Anyone who takes ESG seriously here needs more than just lofty goals,” he said.
“They need a system that makes decisions transparent.”
Dog raised his cup.
“And that’s exactly when ESG stops being a pile of paperwork. Instead, it becomes a guide.”
If you’re currently sorting out ESG, ISO 14001 or management systems for your H₂ project: let’s have a chat. 45 minutes. No slides. Focusing on your specific situation.
