“Why are so many people so critical of hydrogen?” asked Monkey.
Dog looked up from his map.
“I don’t know, dear Monkey,” he said. “Why do you ask?”
Monkey stood in front of him on the veranda and looked at him questioningly.
“What do we do now? Batteries versus hydrogen. Technical efficiency versus systemic efficiency. Electrons versus molecules. As if one technology had to win and all the others disappear. Should we do something?”
Dog folded up the map.
“Come with me. I’ll show you something.”
They walked up the hill together and looked down from there.
Below lay a landscape.
Wind turbines and solar panels.
Bio-CH₄.
Hydrogen, its derivatives and electrons, used where they make sense.
Whether in industry, transport, SMEs or municipal companies.
Management systems in the background, ensuring that good intentions turn into reliable decisions.
Monkey fell silent.
“That doesn’t look like a dispute at all,” she said.
Dog nodded.
“Because we don’t know the future,” said Dog.
“And we will never will. That’s why we shouldn’t commit to a single answer too soon. We should take a close look: what fits where? What helps whom? What really works?”
Monkey looked at the map.
“And hydrogen?”
“Hydrogen isn’t a promised cure-all,” said Dog.
“It’s a tool. Just like batteries, efficiency, electrification, sustainability management and good leadership.”
Monkey looked down at the landscape again.
“So it’s not about who wins at all.”
Dog smiled.
“No. It’s about how nature and humans can live together harmoniously. Free from dependence on fossil fuels. Free from fossil fuel emissions. And with decisions we can stand by. For ourselves and our descendants.”
Monkey smiled.
“Then we don’t need heated debates about technology.”
Dog nodded.
“Rather, respectful campfire chats.”
